One For the Money

This movie I really want to like a lot, but I kind of struggle with it. It’s right up my alley. Sassy, witty female tracks down criminals. But it just lacks something. I actually like Katherine Heigl, but I just can’t put my finger on what bothers me about this movie.

It has a sort of B-level feel or maybe an almost TV movie vibe; it might be the dialogue. The characters were too static and the voice-over too ironic (such as she will voice over something then the person to whom she is referring will say it). Once is cute, more then once? A little on the nose.

I also hate when they take a character who has no experience with something and then suddenly they are an expert. They do this a lot in movies. Just time jump the experience for heaven’s sake; it would make them more relatable.

With all that being said, the movie is cute. It’s not great, but it’s a decent enough plot that gives an enjoyable experience. It has some nice ploys in there, but it just needed a little more oomph and a little less comedy. I know that is probably what it went for, but some empathy and emotion from the characters would have made for more impact.

Check it out from Amazon on the link below or, I think, as of August 2020 it is on Hulu
